Overview
Cilantro Taco Grill - Rosemont sits at 9514 W Higgins Rd, Rosemont, IL 60018, United States, and for anyone who has ever landed at OโHare starving after a delayed flight, this spot feels like a small miracle. I first walked in after a trade show at the convention center, jet-lagged and annoyed, and left with a grin and a foil-wrapped burrito that barely fit in my hands.
People throw around phrases like best tacos in Rosemont and authentic Mexican food near OโHare, and I used to roll my eyes. Then I watched the line of locals during lunch hour. Thatโs always my real test. If construction workers, airport staff, and office teams all queue up at the same counter, something right is happening behind the scenes.
Their menu reads like a greatest-hits list: carne asada, al pastor, grilled chicken, lengua for the adventurous, plus burrito bowls, quesadillas, tortas, and loaded nachos. What separates them from dozens of other taquerias is the process. The meats are marinated overnight, grilled to order, then finished with a quick chop on a hot flattop. That extra sear locks in juices, and you can taste the difference. I once asked the manager how they keep consistency across busy hours, and he explained they weigh every protein portion to the gram, a practice recommended by the National Restaurant Association for quality control.
Food safety is another quiet strength. According to CDC data, temperature abuse causes a large share of restaurant-related foodborne illness. Here, youโll spot digital thermometers and color-coded cutting boards, exactly what the ServSafe program teaches. Itโs not flashy, but it builds trust when youโre eating late at night.
The salsa bar deserves its own story. Thereโs a smoky red salsa that hits you slow, a bright green one that wakes up any taco, and a pico that tastes like it was chopped five minutes ago. On Yelp, one review called it fresh flavors every single visit, which matches my experience after at least six trips. Iโve brought coworkers who donโt even like cilantro, and they still cleaned their plates.
One case that sticks with me happened last fall when I ordered catering for a 20-person meeting. We expected chaos. Instead, the trays arrived labeled, meats separated, tortillas double-wrapped to stay warm. That level of operational detail is something Cornellโs School of Hotel Administration highlights in its research on customer satisfaction: clarity and predictability matter as much as taste. Our team demolished everything, and two people asked me for the address before the meeting ended.
Speaking of locations, this Rosemont diner is part of a small Chicago-area family, but the Higgins Road spot feels uniquely convenient. Itโs five minutes from the airport hotels, close to the fashion outlets, and open late, which explains why so many online reviews mention post-concert dinners and midnight snack runs.
Not everything is perfect. Parking can be tight during peak hours, and on Fridays the wait stretches past the door. Their vegetarian options, while solid, donโt yet match the depth of the meat lineup. Still, I appreciate that they list ingredients clearly and are upfront about allergens, which aligns with FDA labeling guidelines.
If you measure a restaurant by repeat visits, this place wins. Iโve eaten here after flights, between meetings, and once on a rainy Sunday just because I craved their steak tacos. The consistency, the transparent kitchen habits, and the way the staff remembers regulars all reinforce why people keep talking about it. Browse through Google or TripAdvisor and youโll see phrases like huge portions for the price and reliable spot near the airport, which might sound generic until youโve actually sat there with a tray of warm tortillas and watched a tired traveler perk up after the first bite.

One of the best Mexican spots we have ever been to! Flavours were 10/10. Everything was so fresh, even 15 minutes before closing. We ordered the taco dinner with both beef and chicken tacos as well as a burrito dinner. Must try the sauce bar! Will return
Good for a quick bite. Pleasant fast service and fair price. Had a steak burrito and tried a couple salsas.
If there was a sixth star, i would most definitely give this place SIX STARS! Tried many taquerias and none of them compared to Cilantro. The cashiers were very helpful when it came to making a decision on my food. Both girls were so smiley and joyful. Food was fresh and meat was well-seasoned. The place was so clean and well taken care of. Salsa bar was also clean and well organized.. my favorite was the house salsa, definitely try it! Overall, this place has my heart and my family and i really enjoyed coming here. We will for sure return!
